Edge Tackle Specimen Mono
The last couple of seasons, I’ve lost count of how many different lines I’ve tried. So, when Edge Tackle brought out a wide selection of lines, I had to have a look.
With my fishing now being more specimen coarse related, I wanted something that was going to stand up to the rigours it was going to get put through.
The fish I predominantly target are rudd, tench and bream. In some instances, I fish in very weedy or snaggy spots, so Edge Specimen Mono, ticked all the boxes for me. Not only is this line very supple, it is very strong and durable, something that I require. The colour of the mono is spot on, being a lovely dark olive green, it blends into most surroundings.
When it comes to bang for your buck, the spool capacity offers great value for money and is something I look for, going through so much line. I’m using two rods with an all but identical set up, so being available in both 300m and 600m sizes, helps to cut down my wastage. I’m not left with a load of line left over when spooling up and gives tremendous value for money.
As an example, I use the Cadence CR10 Specimen Rods and I like to use 8lb Specimen Mono on the quiver tip and 10lb Specimen Mono with the Avon tips. Purchasing a spool of line in each size, I’ve been able to load four reels and have two compelte set ups of each rod option. Giving me a great, cost effective advantage for different conditions and the species I’m targeting.
Since I’ve been using this line over the past season and at the start of the current one, I’ve not suffered from any line twist, breakages or knots.
I’m usually fishing with a method feeder or bomb. As mentioned earlier, the weed can be thuck in places, so having that extra security knowing your mainline isn’t going to let you down, is almost worth an extra fish on the bank.
In normal circumstances, I have yet to break the 8lb Specimen Mono I usually use, believe me, I’ve tried!
Why not give it a go for yourself, you might just be surprised!
